Elder Scrolls Online PS4 and Xbox One Framerate Confirmed Dev Discusses DirectX 12
A multiplayer online version of Bethesdas Elder Scrolls games was something fans clamored for for years, until they finally got it. When it launched on PC in April 2014, The Elder Scrolls online was met with mediocre reviews and a tepid reception from fans. Over the course of the past year, the developers have worked hard on improving the game, delaying its release on console until they felt it was ready. Now the team is finally ready to start talking console specifics.
Speaking to GamingBolt, The Elder Scrolls Online director Matt Firor revealed that the team is confident that both the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game would run at 30fps. While Frior didnt mention resolutions, the developer has previously stated that the teams goal is to get the game running at 1080p on both platforms. Firor went on to state that the team would also be looking into DirectX 12 integration on for the PC version.
As an old PC developer, we are accustomed to one thing over everything else: change. As such, we take the changes as they come obviously DX integration is a staple of our livelihood, so well do what we need to do, he said.
When The Elder Scrolls Online launched on PC, critics and gamers alike condemned the game for what they perceived was a failed attempt to merge the familiar Elder Scrolls gameplay with MMORPG tropes. Gamespot rated the game a 6/10, stating that its single-player and multiplayer aspects were often at odds with each other, breaking immersion.
As noted by Eurogamer, Bethesda has worked extremely hard over the course of the past year, adding new features, fixing bugs and making major changes to basic gameplay. In March, the developer released Update 6, a massive, 20GB patch that added a raft of major new changes, laying the groundwork for the console port. These changes included dropping the monthly subscription fee, adding a Champion System, revamping combat animations and adding a new Justice System to bring stealth and thievery in line with how it works in the single-player games.
The Elder Scrolls Online Tamriel Unlimited launches on PS4 and Xbox One on June 9. PC players can transfer their characters over and take advantage of a $40 discount on the console versions of the game for a limited time.
